A question you should think about, after you pick an internet business opportunity to own, who is going to build and run it?  The internet is infested with offers that shout out, “buy me and all you have to do is open the box and your internet home business is all ready to go”.  These people advertise internet business opportunities like Betty Crocker advertises her cake mixes, just open the box, and add water and you have a cake in 30 minutes.  The only difference between these huskers and Betty Crocker is that Betty Crocker can deliver on her claims.

I call them “web sites in a box”.  The other more common name is PIPS, plug in profit sites.  Regardless of the name, I have a massive problem with the offers and the basic concept.  To properly cover this topic, I would need to write a book, but I will deal with just a few issues here. One of them is this, who is going to operate and run one of these so called internet business opportunities for you, once you have it?

Regardless of what they say, you still need to build the site and operate it.  That entails adding original content to the site.  That is, if you intend to make a success of it.  One thing almost every so-called expert out there agrees on is, in order to have a successful web site, an internet home business that works, you need to have original content on your site, and lots of it.  Original content is not only king, it’s also the most important ingredient that the search engines look for when deciding which web site gets ranked higher in their page ranking system than others.

Someone once said to me that original content is the food that the search engines devour, they can never get enough of good original content.  Where is that vital food going to come from for your web site?  Yes, I am well aware of the services out there that offer to write, for a fee, articles on any topic you want, the question is, is this the kind of material you will want on your internet home business web site?

I have used the word integrity in other articles on this topic and it should come out here as well. There is a very thin line between putting up content on someone’s website and passing it off as your own, when the source was not you.  One of the so called advantages of these services is that once they write the content for you and you pay them, you own the material and you can put your name on it as the author, it’s all legal, but I am not too sure how ethical it is.

I personally believe that a web site should represent the owner; what they think, how they act, what they stand for.  It should reflect the morals and the values of the owner.  I believe that the good web sites out there do this, the other web sites, the less than successful ones, lack this centre.  They lack soul.  Buying content for your web site for 2 cents a word from some offshore service does not provide soul for your web site.

As you continue your journey for an internet business opportunity that will provide you with what you need, give some thought to what you are going to do with it once you find it. With this thought in mid, it may help you to narrow down your choices and filter out the internet business opportunities that are just not going to be functional or sustainable for you . Before you take the plunge, ask yourself this question: can I see myself still working with this web site 5 years from now?  If the answer is yes, then you may be on to something.
